It's been a long time since this message was posted, but I do have info on this Thomas Greenwade, in answer to the question posted by David T. Jones.Scranton, Bath Co. KY, where Thomas Greenwade lived in 1860, became part of Menifee Co. KY when it was formed in 1868.
In "The History of Menifee County Kentucky", published in 1968, page 18, there is a picture entitled "Historic Kentucky", photo and text by J. Winston Coleman Jr., taken from an unknown publication, which reads:"Beaver Iron Furnace, Menifee County - At Scranton, 8 miles northwest of Frenchburg on KY 1274, stands this charcoal iron furnace...".
Then on page 71, in the Family Histories section of the book, under the heading of GREENWADE is the following:"Thomas Greenwade came from Pa. to work in the Beaver Furnace. When he arrived the furnace hadn't yet been constructed. He supervised the building of the stack and worked there for many years refining the ore and sending it down south.Thomas Greenwade was born 10-11-1814 and died 12-10-1879, he married Sarah on 8-23-1832.Thomas and Sarah were the parents of twelve children...Before Thomas Greenwade's death he moved to Frenchburg and became a hotel keeper..."
There is more info in the biography concerning some of the descendants of Thomas and Sarah Greenwade. If anyone is interested in further info, I will be most happy to post the entire article.
