Hi Jan,
You are right ... not much is known about Ann Greenslade Pudeator, including her maiden name.POINTER/Poynter has been kicked around for probably 40 years or more. Wish I knew how that got started. As far as I know, no one who has researched Ann has found a single clue to her maiden name, let alone a connection to the name "Pointer".
The other info that gets passed around from generation to generaion of researchers has to do with Thomas Greenslade being the brother of Joanna Greenslade "thought to be the dau of Edward Greenslade". As far as I know, no one can document that Joanna was Edward's daughter, so who Joanna's parents were is still a mystery.
As far as the Salem witchcraft trials, we probably now know all that has been found on Ann Pudeator's arrest, conviction, and hanging.
My brick walls are: when did she meet and marry Thomas Greenslade, birth dates and places of their children, death dates and places for their children. Whatever happened to sons Samuel, James, and Thomas? Samuel was named in Pudeator's will, so must have been alive then. James sued for his inheritance after Ann died, so must have been alive in 1693. Thomas deposed during the 1692 trials so we know he was in Salem then. I think the last record might have been his name listed as a crew member headed for Barbadoes. Have no idea what happened to James. Would like to think he was the James that married Rebecca Stearns, but he would have been too old. The James who married Rebecca was probably of the next generation.
Pls keep in touch, and if you have questions about Ann, pls contact me as I might have some info for you. -- Helen Graves
