I saw your posting. I have a Greening family in Penn Yan, Yates County, NY (a little east of Manchester)from early in the 19th century. The only James I have, however, was killed at the Battle of Honey hill in the Civil War in 1864. He had several brothers & sisters -- all children ofJacon Greening and Rachael McNaughton (or Naughton), and there may be another James in their offspring that I am unaware of.

Interestingly, Jacob's parents may have joined a Shaker colony in Groveland, Livingston County, NY in the early 1840's.
