Thanks for the reply. Since I posted my original message I did some research and found out that the direct line had died out, as you said. Henry of Brandlesholme died intestate in 1728, administration being granted to daughters Fanny and Ann. Brandlesholme Hall was sold in 1728. However, I also found out that Myserscough Hall was rebuilt in 1729 by a William Greenhalgh, who was a direct descendant of the Greenhalgh's of Brandlesholme and High Sheriff of Lancashire in 1729.
For some reason I have in my possession a copy of John Greenhalgh's will, he was rector of Bury and died in 1674 and apparently he accompanied the 7th Earl of Derby to his execution in Bolton. Where this came from and why someone in my family thought it necessary to obtain, I have no idea. I was wondering if my Greenhalgh family were descendants of this John Greenhalgh. My great grandmother was convinced that her family were descendants of the Greenhalgh's of Brandlesholme. Also someone in my family has a copy of the Greenhalgh coat of arms. Again, why would anyone obtain this if there wasn't a connection?
I realise that proving any connection is going to be almost impossible, but it would be nice to be able to do so, if only for posterity!
