Hi Sue

The Greenhalgh's of Brandlesome came from Bury. Your Robert came from Bolton. At the time, only the Bradshaw's of Bradshaw, near Bolton were the family of note.
None of the Brandlesomes moved to Bolton and it is unlikely your Robert is a descendant.
When Capt. John was killed in 1651 his g/son, Thomas inherited, then Thomas's sons Henry and Ashton Richard. When Henry died the estate passed to the daughters. This suggests that the male line died out. Unfortunately, the number of Roberts bapt in Bolton in 1766 is too numerous to confidently identify his parents.

Regards
Peter
