Hello Peter,
I had a look at the birth indexes for your Geoffrey V. born in 1929. He was not born in that year. If his mothers maiden name was SMITH then Jeoffrey was born in 1928.
His birth was registered in the Barton<upon Irwell> area and Swinton comes under that reg district.
