Greenway-Dowdeswell Dowdeswell-Greenway Seeking information on the family of Clara May Dowdeswell and John Richard (Jack) Greenway in the Ledbury-Eastnor area around 1900. They were married on Feb. 4, 1909 at the Pixley parrish church. The marriage record shows: Groom. John Richard (Jack) Richard Greenway, born ca.1880 and stated his profession as 1 st. Whipman to the Ledbury Hounds. Bride: Clara May Dowdeswell, born ca. 1889 and listed as Spinster. Both listed their residence-home as Ledbury and Pixley Rectory. The grooms father was John Richard Greenway, profession "Coachman". The brides father was William Arthur Dowdeswell, profession "Platelayer" (slate roofer?) Jack Greenway worked in the hunt hound an horse training profession for Eastnor Castle in Ledbury until he went to Canada in 1915. Jack Greenway's sister was Anne Greenway who married a Phelps and had several children...Howard, Cyril, Rodger , and Violet (Vi). Vi Phelps at 101 is still alive and living in a care home near Ledbury after having to leave her home, Elton Cottege, near Dymock. The Greenway couple went to Canada in 1914-1915 and then to Eastern Long Island, New York. John Greenway continued his profession in hound and hunting horse training for various private Estate riding clubs on Long Island until his death in 1947. Clara May Dowdeswell died on Long Island New York in 1948. We are seeking information on the Greenway-Dowdeswell family in the UK. The only other information we have is that Clara May Dowdeswell had brothers, one of whom was a miner and died of mine related health problems.
