My mother was born Fannie Green in 1927, her father was Louis Green, born circa 1898, of Georgetown, SC.He worked for Atlantic Lumber Company in 1920, and was married to my grandmother Virgie Smith Green (b.1900 d. 1927).The young (my grandfather and grandmother) couple and other family members (siblings) left Georgetown County, at the beginning of the Great Migration, as had many Black southerners, for better opportunities north, and to escape Jim Crow (laws).My mother (Fannie Green) was born in Baltimore, MD the only surviving child of Louis Green and Virgie Smith Green, my grandmother Virgie Smith Green died in childbirth, along with her twin daughter Virgie Green (b.1927-d. 1927). My mother Fannie Green (the surviving twin) was brought to Georgetown as a baby and raised by her grandfather Richard Smith and his wife Adele Pyatt Smith of Georgetown, SC.Louis Green remained in Baltimore, and remarried a woman named Flossie, was a business owner, and they had a son named Louis Green, Jr. and a daughter.
