Bernice, Lousiana 1923-27 James Martin Green
This is my family but not question. It is a cousins. I am posting the two emails he sent. If anyone has any knowledge of this I would appreciate it.
The first email.
I may have asked you this before, but there is an old story in my family about my dad.He and Mother had not been married very long, probably happened between 1923 and 1927, Dad was working in the oil fields. They came to Bernice and a Mr. Green asked Dad to take him to the bank. Dad had one of the few cars in the family at that time.It seems that this Mr. Green had borrowed money from the bank and secured it with his cotton crop which he would harvest. But the bank seized his crop in the field (which allowed them to harvest it, sell it at whatever price to whom they wanted to sell and apply the proceeds to the loan. And if the proceeds were inadequate to pay off the loan, they could then go after Mr. Green's other assets.
Dad took Mr. Green to the bank to protest this procedure.A fight ensued and Mr. Green was stabbed and killed, Dad was stabbed and seriously wounded.Mom carried him to El Dorado to the hospital on the train and he survived.I have seen the scar.
And the second one.
I will ask BF and Elizabeth about it, But that happened in Aunt Irma's family. Aunt Irma married Caleb (Pete) Green, who is my dad's, Felton Green's first cousin. I believe It was Uncle Pete's dad, James Martin Green who got killed, and then Uncle Pete killed the banker. Maybe we can find something about that on the internet. Families did not talk about things like that among children.
