Surnames: Christides, Christidis, Christedes, Booras, Boras
Looking for assistance to learn more about John (Ioannis) A. Christides (Christidis) who was born 16 October 1894 in Kalentzi, Ioannina, Epirus, Greece and died 10 December 1975 in Lowell, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He probably immigrated to the US as a single man before June 1917, leaving behind his parents and seven brothers and sisters in Kalentzi. His parents may have been named Apostolos and Marie Christides (Christidis). Three known sisters’ names were Evdokia (Evodokla) Christides Talros, Ourania Christides Katsaris, and Magdelena (Madeline, Magdalini) Christides Logothis (spellings may not be exact) who were all widowed before 1967 and alive after 1975. John’s youngest sister Magdelena was born after John immigrated to the US. There were four additional Christides siblings who were deceased before 1975.
On 16 October 1932 in Astoria, New York, John Christides married Aggeliki G. Booras, daughter of Elias (Louis) George Booras and Elene (Eleni, Helen) L. Ziavras (Zavras). Aggeliki was born 13 November 1910 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and died 18 March 1993 in Maplewood Nursing Home, Westmoreland, New Hampshire. John and Aggeliki’s children were Paul, the oldest living daughter, Mary, Louis, and the youngest living daughter.
I have found some intriguing leads by using the whitepages.gr website. But, I could use some help learning how to make connections with possible family members living back in or near Kalentzi as well as keepers of family records for that village. Also, I would appreciate assistance with locating John’s immigration record and naturalization application (probably the state of New York for both).
