Makris family in Anchialos(Pomorie), Bulgaria?

Hello Forum,

I have been helping my 91 year old mother-in-law research her Bulgarian Geek family history and I need the Forumís help in my quest. I only have information on her mother and uncle although we know there was another sibling.

Her mother, Eleni Makris(Macri, Macres), was evidently born in Anchialos, Bulgaria, on 11 May 1895, before emigrating to Nea Anchialos, GR, Iím guessing before 1906. She died 23 Sept in Houston, Texas, USA, Fatherís name George, motherís name Maria, we think.

Eleni had an older brother, Andrew G. Makris, who was also born in Anchialos, Bulgaria, on 30 Nov 1881, died 3 Jan 1949, Pine Bluff, AR, USA. It appears that Andrew had traveled to the USA earlier, around 1905, before returning to Nea Anchialos, and marrying. The unknown sibling(female) resided in the Volos or Nea Anchialos, GR area.

Eleni then emigrated to the USA with her brother Andrew and his wife, Anastassia Zack, on 22 Apr 1914, settling in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, USA. They had two boarders in their home who were also from AnchialosÖGus Pappas and Pascal Zack. Andrew owned the successful OK Ice Cream and Candy shop where he employed many local Greeks.

Do any of these names sound familiar? I would love to find out where to write to find out the Makris family structure, birth and death certificates, marriage, baptisms, etc., but I donít know where to start in my Bulgarian search. Would someone please point me in the right directionÖ.your help is greatly appreciated.Thank you.

Jim Brown
