Xanthopoulos, Xanthis, Xanthus, from Smyrna & Detroit

Searching for any similar names or information on families Xanthis or Xanthopoulos who or anyone who came from Smyrna Greece (Turkey) in the early 1900s.

My grandfather, Antonios Xanthopoulos, aka Tony Xanthis (Xanthus), born between 1890 and 1894 in Smryna, may have gone to school in Cairo, Egypt before he came to the United States. He arrived in the US sometime between about 1915 and 1919 at about age 25. He eventually came to live in Detroit, MI and died there in 1942. He attended the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral
707 E. Lafayette Blvd.Detroit, MI 48226.

Do any records exist from any Greek schools or churches in Cairo from the early 1900s?
Do any records exist of Greek families from Smyrna?
Who controlled Smyrna in about 1915-1919?

Thank you for any help in finding related families or helpful clues.
