Dear Anthony,

Both Thana and I are so excited getting the great news about my siblings' dad, George. Since Andy, Thana, Marge, Elaine, Connie,& Ted were hardly ever told much information about George, and since they were still young when George died, this information is so appreciated by the two of us. We hope to get more info. from you regarding the letter our mom, Eleanor, wrote to your dad, and what the content of the letter was.

Mom was working and trying to take care of the six children by herself during George's illness. We were wondering why she wrote the letter to your father. Was it to notify you of George's illness or was it to ask for money out of desperation. Mom's mother, Margaret married Gust Poulos, when my mom was a teenager. Gust was never very nice to my mom until his brother, Louis, married mom after Eleanor divorced George. I do know that mom could not get financial help from her family so she had a very hard time raising the six kids until she married my dad. My mom and dad lived across the street from Gust and Margaret for many years.
George died in the 1950's. Margaret in the 1970's. Gust in the 1980's. My dad, Louis Poulos, in 1988 and my mom, Eleanor in 1991.
My oldest sibling, Andrew died about seven years ago and my sister, Constantina, died a few years ago.
The rest of us are scattered around the U.S.
My husband is from PA which is not that far from N J.
Also, my dad, Gust, their brother Ioannes (John) and another cousin Ted Poulos, all we were told, came from Toporista also. The Greek Church in Omaha, also shows Toporista as their homeland.
We wonder if the poulos' changed their name from something other than ElioPoulos - even though that is on all the church records and on my dad's military and naturalization records.
All the older fellows always told everyone that they were cousins. That included George.
Also, my dad's sister, Varcelia's husband was said to have been a Greek priest. Another sister, Elaine was said to have been blind. My dad's dad, Petros was said to have had red hair as well as one of the girls.
If that rings a bell with anyone in your family...would you please let us know. Louis was also suppose to be related to Sisurus.
Thanks again, Anthony, you have given my sister, Thana, who suffers from M. S.. She said the info. Tickled her pink.
You lifted our spirits.
Thanks so very much.
Kathie Poulos - Schweiss
