I'm just starting on the greek side of the family. All I have to go on is what is written in my baby book. My grandfather (Themetrios Poulimenos b.1901/1902) was the son of Panagiotis Poulimenos and Kiratso Ciabekos. Panagiotis was the son of Demetrios Poulimenos. But, Demetrios Poulimenos was the son of Christos Arvanitis. The story that was passed down to me was that the Arvanitis children kept dying around birth to 1-2 years. The parents decided to give the child to the church and leave it in God's hands. The baby was put on the altar and the first people to run up and touch the baby became the godparents and actually raise the child. The last name was changed from Arvanities to Poulimenos, because the baby was 'sold to the church.' Does anyone have a Christos Arvanitis (around the 1800's). Some cities that were in my baby book were: Chiapoga (Tsiapoga?) and Malota Thanks! Best wishes, Andrea p.s. I'm also interested in talking with anyone who has these people or last names in their tree.
