Can anyone explain the expression for the year as found in following---?

In the name of God Amen: the Twenty-seventh day of January Anno Domini one thousand seven hundred and Forty six seven,

It's the "Forty six seven" I refer to. I've run across that expression a number of times and don't understand what it means.. or how it's used. Educate me, please.
