Hi David!
I got the information from a professor at the University of California, Berkeley who was doing research on the minor historical figure Valentine Greatrakes. He published that information about 7 years ago. I have his name somewhere. I'll have to look. I don't know where he got his information.
My Greatgrandmother, Anna, also said that we were a Welsh family with an English name.
Is it possible that the family gave the name to the dale or did the dale have the name first? Interesting.
