You said it was not easy to convince DAR. Then maybe now that you have all of your proof together it would be easy to get it through the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) Are you saying that your Jacob was related to Henry Cassels of South Carolina or not. You say that you tried to make that work (that is that the father & mother of John, of Georgia was Henry Cassels & Margaret ) I don’t know anyone that had proven that. But just for the record I think it’s still an open question who are the parents of John Cassels of Georgia (that died in 1816) ( lets call him my John) Question - where did the John of South Carolina that fought under Francis Marion, the son of Henry Cassels and Margaret Mitchell go to when he left South Carolina. Facts: He, (my John) was in South Carolina in 1790 listed with many familier names of the Black River/ Williamsburg, South Carolina. True some of these people left this area during the Revolution to Liberty County Georgia and when it was overrun with British troops they left there and some returned to Williamsburg, SC , some did not. The only John Cassels in SC in the 1800 census is 26 to 45 yr. old, to young to be my John . Which would make sense because the John in Georgia received his land grant in Georgia in 1807. In 1810 SC census there are only two John Cassels. Both are also to young to be my John. One of the Johns is in Georgetown SC and he is the son of James Cassels or Castle the American Rev. war Loyalist. James lost his property after the Rev. war but the land that belonged to his mother (Nancy Mann) who had already passed away during a period of time when this John was in Scotland receiving his education in Law. That property was returned to this John son of James Cassels. John returned and lived in Georgetown, SC for many years and then returned to Leith, Scotland to his deceased fathers ancestral home. So neither of these Johns in the 1810 census SC are my John. I posted some of my research about this family of James Cassel (Loyalist ) on GenForum at this website if you want to research more on this subject …….http://genforum.genealogy.com/cassels/messages/32.html Sadly there is not an 1810 census in Georgia to check for John, who at this time is now in Georgia . And, John died before the next census in 1820. So …. Where did the John (my john , the Rev. war militiaman that fought under Francis Marion ) in Williamsburg, South Carolina area, go to. Well in a book by Ruth Adair “Receipts for Bounty Grants in Georgia “ ( a list of revolutionary war veterans that went to Georgia ) there is a clue. Many names on this list are the same family names that were in the Williamsburg, Black River area living near to my John in South Carolina. Such as Boykin, Bradley, Boyd, Frierson, etc. And they now appear in this list along with a John Cassels ( Rev. war veteran ) Speaking of names, where does the name Greathouse ever appear in the Cassel family. After John Cassels of Baldwin county Georgia who’s wifes family name you say is a Greathouse. I have been researching the family for about 40 years., and have never seen that name in any of my research as a middle name. Suppose the name that we are reading at in Johns will of 1816 in Jasper County Georgia, who names his wife as Christian. That you have matched to a Cassels, is maybe Kristin or Christene or something like that wouldn’t that throw the whole thing off. Anyway just so others know that not everyone believes that Greathouse is a family connection. Notify Administrator about this message?
