A biography of Richard Grayson, a member of the Grayson Brothers, merchants of Antelope, MT, is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, page 802.

Richard Grayson was born, 16 Sep 1869, the eldest of three children of William and Mary (Ramsey) Grayson. John Grayson was the paternal grandfather who was a native of Herfordshire, England, was a farmer throughout his life, and spent his last years in Canada. Family church records show the Graysons to have lived at Herfordshire over 300 years ago.

Richard spent his boyhood on the parental farm. The family migrated to Walsh County, ND, in 1882, and in time Richard began farming for himself. Richard continued farming near Lankin for seventeen years, then he came to the present site of Antelope, MT, and set up a mercantile firm, in association with his brother, John. They started their small business a mile south of the present town with a carload of hardware, and later added a stock of general merchandise. The Grayson Brothers continued as general merchants until fire destroyed their store on 6 Jun 1918, and then they carried only implements. The Grayson brothers were also farmers; John carrying on the mercantile business while Richard took care of the agriculture business. They joined two other citizens in the erection of an elevator in Antelope. Richard built the first house on the townsite of Antelope.

On 5 Oct 1898, Lankin, ND, Richard married Miss Emma J. Wooldridge, born 14 May 1878, near Toronto, Canada, daughter of John and Mary (Millman) Wooldridge, both born in Devonshire, England. They came to America in 1872, first to Canada and then to North Dakota, where they were farmers. They subsequently moved to Albany, Oregon, where they spent several years before moving to Antelope, MT. Mr. Wooldridge died, Apr 1917, age 70, and his widow returned to Albany, OR. Wooldridge children: Lizzie Ann (Mrs. Arthur Bolton, Lacombe, Alberta); William (accidental death at Albany, OR); James (Farmer near Albany, OR); John (Near Albany, OR); Fred (Lawton, ND); George (Lackie, Alberta); Emma (Mrs. Richard Grayson, Antelope, MT); Mabel (Mrs. Fern Christian, Langdon, ND); Eveline (Mrs. Ervin Christian, Lawton, ND); Ida (Mrs. Jesse Davis, Albany, OR).

Children of Richard and Emma (Wooldridge) Grayson: Mary Louise, Ernest C., George W., Arthur I., Milton J., Lillian E., Miles W., Leonard, Edward Franklin.
