A biography/family history of John Grayson, Antelope, MT, is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, pages 876 & 877.
John was born, 26 Nov 1871, son of William and Mary (Ramsey) Grayson. William Grayson was born, 1844, Woodstock, Ontario; 1882 homesteaded in Walsh Co., ND; moved to Antelope, MT, in the spring of 1910. Mary died in Antelope, MT, in 1910. William and Mary had three children: John and Richard (Antelope, MT); Sara (Mrs. James Stewart, Antelope, MT).
John moved with his parents to a farm near Lankin, ND, where he was educated and began his career as a farmer. He farmed for about nine years then to become a merchant in Lankin, ND. In 1910, he sold his business and moved to Montana with his brother. The Grayson brothers were the first merchants of Antelope, MT, selling hardware, machinery, and general merchandise. After eight years a fire destroyed their store, and they resumed business, Grayson Brothers, confining their stock to machinery. In 1915, the brothers bought land and raised grain. John Grayson was elected first mayor of Antelope.
On 6 Dec 1899, Grafton, ND, John married Miss Elizabeth Little, daughter of John and Jane (Brown) Little. Her father, John, was a native of Ireland, spent his early life in Canada, married near Quebec, and came to the US the same time as the Grayson family (1882), homesteaded at Golden Valley, Walsh County, ND. Five children in the Little Family: Hugh, John, William, Mrs. Elizabeth Grayson, Mrs. Ella Bergerson.
Children of John and Elizabeth Grayson: John Ellsworth, William Lawrence, Ella May, Earl, Walter James, Opal Louella, Roger.
