From the widow's pension file no. 1,079,202 of
ELENOR "ELLEN" JANE GRAVELY BROWNING WOLF
A portion of a deposition given Nov 14, 1917 at State Soldiers' Home, Tippecanoe Co, IN by Ellen J. Wolf:
"I was born February 22, 1836, about 40 miles from Danville, Va. We lived about 25 miles from Henry Co. courthouse. My father was William Gravelly [sic] and my mother was Lydia Gravelly. There were nine children in the family that were raised to be grown, but they are all dead but me. The children in the order of the births were, James M.; Rachel; myself; Margaret; Matilda; Mary; William M.; David; Henry W., and one child that died in infancy. We moved to Tenn. when I was a child, and lived on Government land, and in 1851, we moved to Indiana. We lived near Galveston, Ind., Howard Co., and I lived in Howard Co. until I was married to Isaac G. Browning. I had two children by Isaac G. Browning. They were James M. and John W. Browning. James M. Browning went into the navy or on the sea as a sailor, and I have not heard from him for over twenty-five years. I do not know whether he enlisted or not. John W. was a railroad man, and was out about Kansas City the last I heard of him, but I have not known anything about him for about twenty-five years."
[I have no Gravely connection; was researching Browning; abstract of pension to be posted at some point but thought this info about her parents and siblings might be useful to Gravely researchers]
