Stuart- my family has been traced to a group of names in the Virginia area-James, Mary and Joseph Gravely. Joseph was born Jan. 10, 1744 and reportedly that was in Herefordshire, England. Now there is a theory that he was the son of James Gravely, Sr. of Prince Edward and Pittsylvania Counties in Virginia. I do not know whatis correct. What does appear pretty correct is that they are from England but even that is a bit open at the moment.
There is a great deal of Gravely records and history in the state of Virginia area.
Hope this helps.
What i am looking for is a current English Gravely who has knowledge and or records of their descendants emigrating to America that will tie in to all this. and also tie backward in English history.
Lawrence
