Dear Adrian,
Would you possibly have details on parents from Alfred's birth record? From his marriage record I found they are listed as Francois and Marie --.

Francois-Xavier-Alfred (Alphege) Gravel was born on 20 Dec 1853 in the parish of Immaculee-Conception, St. Ours, Richelieu County, Quebec. He was baptised there two days later.
