Alexis-Moise Gravel was born 17 October 1822 at Boucherville and was baptised the next day at St. Antoine Catholic Church, Longueuil County. Quebec. He anglified his name to Alexander Moses after he came to the United States. He was the son of Francois Gravel and Marie Ouimet, who married at St. Antoine in Longueuil on 24 June 1816.
