This is a follow-up on my original reply to your inquiry.
Since my reply to your inquiry about John Wark and his wife Marguerite Gravel, I have shared information with a colleague in Montreal. She has provided additional details on this couple and their family. The additional details included information that identified Marguerite Gravel as almost certainly the daughter of Joseph Gravel and Marie-Anne Vandanague dite Gadbois. Marie-Marguerite was born and baptized 3 February 1766 at St. Vincent, Laval, Ile Jesus, Quebec. Source: parish records of St. Vincent-de-Paul Catholic Church, Laval, Ile Jesus, Quebec; volume 2, page 2 for 1766, baptismal record #10 in 1766; available on LDS FHL microfilm #1018205 (gives parents' names as Joseph Gravel and Marie-Anne Vandanague dite Gadbois; says that birth was the day of the baptism).
Note, we have not found direct documentary proof that the Marguerite Gravel who married John Wark is the same person as born to Joseph Gravel and Marie-Anne Vandandague dite Gadbois. The circumstantial evidence, however is strong. I will send you directly an e-mail message with an explanation of the circumstantial evidence.
The document which would directly prove Marguerite’s parents has not been found. It is a “marriage rehabilitation,” probably in the records of a parish in Ontario or on Ile Jesus. This marriage rehabilitation was a frequently-used device to “legitimize” a Protestant wedding ceremony in the eyes of the Catholic Church. Because John Wark and Marguerite Gravel lived their lives and raised their children Catholic, a “marriage rehabilitation” surely occurred. That document should provide the names of Marguerite and John’s parents.
