Thanks for the James info.
Today I went to the archives and this is what I found in the limited time I had (I'm going back).
D.M. Gratton is enumerated in 1880 in Monroe County, Pleasant Township, IA.Living with him are his wife Zarena (Czarina), Perry Melander, (married my Aunt Lois Czarina Langdon), L.C. (Lois), their children Elizabeth & A.M..Also living there are 2 of my uncles, H.D. & H.W. Langdon.
Harriet Gratton Waterman is enumerated in 1880in Monroe County, Troy Township, Albia, IA.Enumerated in her household are my grandmother Helen Langdon, age 5; my Uncle Frank Langdon, age 3; and Uncle Barber Langdon age 1.She says they are her nephews and niece. I have her married in 1859 in Lenawee, MI.
I'll be going back just not enough time to see all I wanted in IA.I also found Henry G. Gratton in Allamakee County, Ludlow Township, IA.Enumerated with him are his wife, Rosanna (born in Canada), children John and Decorah b in IA; and his parents Amos and Abba (not plain but obviously should be Abby for Abigail) and a servant.
I am much more comfortable now knowing there is a connection. Now to sift through more to tie David to Jason besides his sister living in same area and having my grandmother and siblings living with her and her family.
Wish me luck.
Judy
