James Grant of Ryvoan b. 1786
James Grant born 20th November 1786, son of William Grant and Margaret McDonald. He enlisted in the 79th Regiment of Foot in 1804. Served in the Peninsular Wars. After being wounded he returned to Scotland and married Elsie Grant, one of the great beauties of the parish of Tulloch and settled at Rivoan/Ryvoan. Known locally as "The Chelsea Pensioner" he died in 1876 and was perhaps the oldest Chelsea pensioner at the time. (see In the Shadow of the Cairngorms by Rev.Forsyth).I am a descendant through his son James Grant b.1820 and his wife Marjory Cameron. Their daughter Christina Grant b.1863 was my greatgrandmother.
Would be happy to share information with any descendants
