The following invitation is extended to all interested in Metis history:

The Qu'Appelle Valley Rendezvous
August 6,7,8 and 9, 2009
at Lebret, Qu'Appelle Valley, Saskatchewan

From the "Heart of the Nation" they traveled West with their Red River carts, hoping to create a new life for themselves and their families......
Some had taken the route south to Pembina and the Turtle Mountains.
Some remained at Turtle Mountain and made a home there, but others continued their journey west. Many traveled north again to Willow Bunch, Woodmountain and the Cypress Hills.
Eventually, a considerable number of families chose to settle in the beautiful Qu'Appelle Valley.
For them it was already a familiar place, that had been known and cherished for generations.
It was a legendary gathering place that provided shelter and nourishment for the body and soul.
The early Métis families brought with them their faith, and soon this place became known as "La Mission de Qu'Appelle".
Families journeyed for miles to Lebret to have their children baptized. Many a young couple got married in Lebret ...and many found their final resting place here.

We will be celebrating the families who took the journey more than 100 years ago. Their descendants live among us.
Just a few days ago we were reminded of these journeys, when we welcomed the Red River Carts that had come to the valley from Manitoba. We learned that the carts were
manufactured at St. Francois Xavier/ Grantown more than 150 years ago, when Metis people experienced a "Golden Age".
The Qu'Appelle Valley Rendezvous will be a historical event, a learning experience and most of all a celebration for all who are interested in Metis history and culture.
The event will take place at the Lebret Community Centre (formerly Curling Rink)
