I'm sure those of you researching the Grants of Campbell County have read the references to Lum Grant, son of James Hamilton Grant, in the book Tales from the Grassroots of TVA. The author, Marshall Wilson, mentions a trunk with nearly 40 bundles of documents and lists some of the contents of the trunk in the book. He mentions a family bible from 1804, a petiton by Major James Grant for his brother John Grant regarding John's service during the Rev. War. etc. Deeds and maps for Grantsboro, letters from or to Major Grant from Washington, William Blount, etc. Many important documents here that were supposedly photographed by Marshall and Mary Baker back in 1935 or so. The whole lot was purchased by one W.C. Taylor of Townsend, Tennessee and donated to the University of Tenn. Baker worked for U.T as a librarian I believe. The only items listed by Marshall that are in the special collections is a Masonic medal and a letter signed by George Washington. The state archives and two repositories here in Knoxville do not have this collection of documents. Does anyone know what happened to this collection? The bible and petition may answer some questions for us. I will continue to persue this puzzle and hope others will as well. I am also compiling as much of my Grant records into something readable, including pictures, for those interested in this line. I'm not finished and would love to have everyone's input on this. I'm not branching out too far from the main lines though. I will email a copy to those interested and you can add what you like and let me know of any mistakes. jmode@mindspring.com Notify Administrator about this message?
