This is a long shot, there are enough similarities to respond to your message.
I have been looking for the brothers and sister of
edward Grant. Their names were Mary,John, and William. They were reported to be 1st, 2nd and whatever cousins to U.S. Grant.They were all born prior to 1859 because that was when their mother died. I think they were sent to live with relatives. They were living in New Orleans, but I don't think they stayed their after their other's death. I think they went to live with other relatives. This could be where Mary ended up and had her family.
