My Australian Grainger family originated in Northern Ireland, settling in Co.Cavan.William Grainger was the chief constable in JamesBallyduff, his wife was Mary Berry.
at least four of their offspring came free to Australia in the 1850's including Edward Grainger my gr-gr-grandfather, he married Annie Patterson also from Co. Cavan. Most of the children were policemen or lawyers, one son William became Mayor of Ashfield. My family was definitely related to Percy Grainger, he was 1st cousin to my gr. grandmother, and used to visit regularly with his mother Rose.It is always stated that Percy was English, which probably suited the family aspirations, however, his father Harry, was more likely to have come from Ireland, before Percy was born.Anyone researching this family, please contact.
