Mrs. G. F. (Skales) Graham ~ Atwood, Kansas
Decatur County Journal-Iowa
Thursday, September 29, l92l
RICHARD SKALES was born near Ontario, Canada, September l5, l844, and departed this life at his home on September 20, l92l, age 77 years and five days. While very young he was compelled to make his own way in life.
In the year of l87l, he came to Illinois where he was united in marriage to NANCY JANE ANDERSON. To this union were born seven children, of whom four are living, H.G. SKALES, of Altoona, Pa.; MRS. G.F. GRAHAM, and MRS. C.J. DOOLITTLE, of Atwood, Kansas; and seven grandchildren. In the year of l896, he moved with his family to Decatur County, Iowa, where he settled on a farm three miles southeast of Davis City. Here and near to this place he has since lived. The wife died November, l9l8. He then retired from farming. Early in life he became a follower of the meek and lowly Nazerene and united with the church and lived in that faith till the last, realizing Godliness is profitable unto all things. He was known as a man of honesty and integrity and a great lover of his home and family. The children lose a kind and loving father and the community in which he lived a loyal citizen.
Funeral services were held Friday, September 23, at 2 o'clock at the M.E. Church in Davis City, conducted by Rev. E.C. Vanderpool. Interment in the Hamilton Cemetery beside his wife.
