What I CAN provide, Krystin, is a little historical background info, though little else. Newcastle, England (called Newcastle upon Tyne by some, in the "county" of Tyne & Wear), was once part of the Scottish Borders, circa 1530-1603. The fact that your friend is descended (definitely, as they ARE her mother's people, right?) from a Graham man of Newcastle gives a strong indication that she is of Border stock, as the Grahams, Armstrongs, Elliots, Johnstones, Bells, Maxwells, Croziers, Taylors, Fenwicks, Scotts, and Musgraves were families who were more heavily concentrated in this area. The Grahams were definitely one of the more numerous, even of these clans (even though they also have had lands in other areas of Scotland, but that's another story). Read the poem, "Lochinvar" by Sir Walter Scott (in which they are called, 'Graemes'), and "The Border Reivers" by Keith Durham (illustrated by Angus McBride) for more info. I hope that helps at least a bit! They have the little paperback Keith Durham book usually at the used book shops you'll find all over. It's pretty easy to obtain. You can find "Lochinvar" on the internet. God bless you!
