On further thought...the John Grafton of Essex county may be a family member of mine...
John Grafton is reported to have been a soldier in the Revolutionary War (1775-1783). A military land warrant (No. 1491) for John Grafton was found that indicates he was given 100 acres for 3 years of service Virginia line on August 4, 1783.
Pension application papers (File 7721) were filed by John's widow Jinny Moody. The papers indicate thatthey were married in 1783 in Essex County. In 1844 when she applied, Jinny was about 96 years old which puts her birth about 1748. John died about 1787, when their oldest child, age 60 in January 1844 (born about 1784) was about 3 years old. In her declaration for the pension application the way she says "their oldest child" makes us think they had more than one child together.
Research has shown that John's wife name was Jane Sain so the reference to John and Janey could be them...seems John and his wife stayed in the Essex county area until after his death...can you send me a copy of this deed???
