Thanks for the follow up
Information that I took from my an old family bible shows January 10, 1834 as birthdate of William L. Gracy. In all of the references that I have ever seen in my family, including William L., the name is spelled Gracy.
My cousin of the name Gracy was visiting in Nashville, TN several years ago and as a result of several calls to numbers taken out of the phone book came upon a person named and spelled Gracy who furnished him with a copy of a family tree from John GracyJean Sinclair which shows two branches from Patrick Gracy one of which is spelled Gracey and the other Gracy. This family tree was done in 1943. My cousin reproduced copies on a blueprint machine and some of the lettering was starting to fade so I had it scanned to a disk. This family tree shows "The Patrick Gracy" born 1700 died 1810 as the son of John Gracy and Jean Sinclair and all spelled as Gracy. The Gracey line starts with Patrick Gracy's son Robert. It also shows a short branch of the marriage of Patrick's sister Jean to a John Knox. Their daughter Jane married a Samuel Polk whose son was President James K.(Knox) Polk. The family tree also references Jean Sinclair as a relative of John Knox,The Reformer who married a Sinclair according to some research that I've come up with.
My Cousin had found a D. G. Gracy on this tree (my grandfather was David Gustavus Gracy who went by D. G.)whose line was from Newell GracyMargaret Shores whose son was John C. Gracy. John C. later married Elizabeth Grear and apparently their son was Andrew Reid Gracy whose son was D. G. However, this line does not tie back to a William L. or William N. referenced in the family bible as grandfather and father, respectively, of my grandfather, David Gustavus. Additionally, this family tree shows this D.G. to have had brothers and sisters and it was my understanding that my grandfather was an only child. This entry is on the outer branches of this tree and does not show the descendants of this D. G. I did, however, hear my grandfather refer to a cousin of the name of Grear but since that geneeration seemed to be more tuned in to extended family I'm not sure if he was 1st,2nd, 3rd,etc.Maybe just a name coincidence.
There is also a branch showing a William L. Gracy that appears by its placement to be from the first marriage of John C. Gracy to Margaret Shores but it does not continue with his descendants, if any. Could be this is the one. It seems to fit generationally.
Anyone out there with a connection?
