Several years ago I had an in-depth Y-DNA analysis done. The results were posted on the internet. I had hopes that I would find other Grace's with matching or similar profiles, and that the new leads my be valuable for future genealogical research. What resulted was quite unexpected. A few months ago I received an email from a researcher named Winegarner. His Y-DNA profile was an almost exact match to my own on our 67 marker tests! Familytreedna calculates this as a genetic distance of 1, meaning that the probability that we share a common ancestor is: 4 generations is 46.92% 8 generations is 85.95% 12 generations is 97.23% 16 generations is 99.53% 20 generations is 99.93% 24 generations is 99.99% Interestingly, our ancestors both lived in northeast Virginia in the late 1700's, and in central Ohio in the 1800's to the 2000's. There was in fact a marriage between my great grandmother's cousin and a Winegarner female in 1866! Has anyone else come across a similar congruence of DNA and family history?
