Hi, Richard: Richard W. Grabe was either the brother or the cousin of my great-grandfather George August Grabe, a brick manufacturer who came to Silver City, New Mexico in 1873. Uncle Dick, as my grandpa referred to him, came with my great-grandfather or shortly after, and they were partners in the brick manufacturing and masonry contracting business. They either built or supplied the brick for most of the brick buildings that are still standing in Silver City. My older brother, George Grabe, has my great-grandfather's Army Colt .44 revolver, undoubtedly a match to yours. My great-grandfather bought it in St. Louis on his way to New Mexico in 1873. Uncle Dick and my great-grandfather both rode on the civilian posse from Silver City that captured Geronimo in 1882 or 1883, so they did have need of heavy pistols - they had to defend themselves against Cheyenne, Comanche, and Apache on their way west by wagon train.
