I live in "Co Durham", "North East of England".
My gr-gr-grandfather was "William Goyen"
My gr-grandmother was "Jane Ann" her name was spelt "Goyin" when she married "John Doney" in 1870 in Launceston, Cornwall.
Census from 1851 Devon.
5, Well, Beerferris, Devon, England.
"William Goyen" head m 32 lead miner b St Agnes, Cornwall.
"Mary Ann" wife 30 b Beerferris, Devon.
"Jane Ann" dau 5 b Tavistock, Devon.
"William" son 3 b Beerferris, Devon.
The family came to Co Durham after first child (Eliza Jane) was born.
There are often variations to the spelling of this name!
I have viewed many records associated with the same people and have found them refered to as "Goyen" "Goyne" and "Goyin" (in genealogy never dismiss a surname becouse of the spelling! most people couldnt spell (still can't) so it depended on there accent how it was often written)
This branch of the family is shown on the 1881 census in Co Durham "North East of England" although I have not found any record of "Jane Ann" and "John Doney" and family,(they had by then, at the least 3 children, "Eliza Jane" aged 10, "William J" aged 6 and "Mary Ann" aged 5)
"Jane Ann's" father "William" mother "Mary Ann" brother "William" and "William's" son "Richard" (surname spelt Goyne this time) are all living together in Half Moon Lane , Tudoe, Co Durham.
In 1881 there is another "William Goyne" living with his family in Ryhope, Co Durham, I don't yet know the connection to mine.
This "William" and other brothers are ancestors of Joe and Ann Kendal (e-mail to [email protected] )you will find her message on the rootsweb mailing list!she said that there where two brothers of her line that went to America!
I also have my gr-grandmother "Jane Ann's brother "William" on the 1901 census in Co Durham (this time his name is spelt "Goyen")on his marriage and his son's marriage there name is spelt "Goyin" (the same goes for baptisms etc)
Did you know it is surgested that our ancestors where "French Huguenots"!
