The GOWIN/GOWAN surname is fairly rare in the U.S. and as you probably know, has been modified over time.
Through written genealogy, I successfuly traced my family as far back as 1752 in Bedford County, VA."Thomas", "John" and "William" are very common names in my family history.
I have also participated in Y-DNA through Family Tree DNA which was successful in identifying two cousins where we shared written genealogy and found our common ancestor.Y-DNA is passed on from father to son through generations with very little mutation.I discovered that my family origin is Scotland because my Y-DNA is unique/rare in the DNA community and was found to be indigenous to Scotland for the past 1,500 years or so.
Please let me know if you know of any GOWIN male member of this family that has participated in Y-DNA or may be interested.
Best regards
