Gower Cemetery in Nashville, TN needs help
Hi all Gower ancestors. I am Gower Mills, and live in Nashville, TN. During my vacation in July, I went to a neighborhood meeting and met a man from the Centenary United Methodist church on Gower Rd. He told me the man that was taking care of the cemetery with alot of Gower family members was not being looked after properly. The church is mainly of senior citizens, and low congregation numbers. I told him I would see about getting it cleaned up. Well, I went there myself, and thought it would be easy. It took me 4 days of cutting weed eating, and chainsawing tree limbs. I finally got it done though. I am sending this out to all for possible help in keeping the cemetery cut back, and it good order. I ruined my lawnmower in the process, and don't have one to cut the grass now. I also have looked into a possible Historic Landmark sign to be erected. The cost is around $1,800 for this though. The cemetery is were Reverend William Gower, his wife Charlotte Reeves Gower, and many others are buried. To the person looking for James Russell? I found his marker, and that he was a private in the Revolutionary War, I believe. I didn't have chance to write info down. When I get a chance I will photgraph the head stone and post that I have it. If anyone would like to help, please email me at [email protected], and I will be able to tell you more. Take care, and hope your summer was good.
