Mike...I live in Warrenton NC just across the Va/NC line. The Gowers from Gwinnett County Ga are from Johnston County NC who came from Brunswick County Va. Abel is as far back as I have found but I am pretty sure the Gowers originated from Worcester or Gloucester England. Most of the information I have seen shows this. I am thinking about going to Lawrenceville to look some of this stuff up. It is about an hour from me. My relatives came from Johnston county NC and moved into Wake County NC. Some of the Gowers went to nashville Tennessee when they left Brunswick County Va.
