Hi Lorn,
I don't know if your surname is Gowdie.
You mentioned a rather extraordinarily named couple called Edna "Dolly" GOWDIE & John FRAME. Did they also arrive from Stirlingshire, Scotland: 1920-26 ?? Does anyone have photos of them? and/or know anything about their respective ancestries?
I say extraordinary because of some complex possibilities of GOWDIE, GAWDY GAUDERN, FRANE, FRAME, COLDHAM interlinks which go back to the early 12th century in England and to Viking origins some of which are traceable to the 900's.
Both the Frane/Frame and Gaudern bloodlines are my probable ancestors..or ancestral cousins at least, according to DNA. As for Gowdie/Gawdy, there are strong signs of linkage.
I've only just stumbled on this treasure trove of connections between Frane-Coldham and Gaudern-Gawdy-Gowdie today; so I have no idea what's going on here.
Perhaps FRAME's and GOWDIE's were both commonly found in Stirlingshire??
ps: although i'm English, I spent 10 years living in Ottawa & have Canadian citizenship.
Sincerely
Gerry (Gerard) Coldham
