Dear Joyce, I would like to know if there is a library or court house type of archive in 96, SC. I live in Elberton GA, some 20/25 miles west SW of Abbyville. I recently discovered that one of my NC ancestors, Zachariah Chancey was associated with Robert Gouedy: Source: The Colonial Records of South Carolina The Journal of the Commons House of Assembly Thursday the 27th Day of March 1760. "... The following Papers were severally read, vizt. Friday the 13th Day of June 1760. The 182d (No. 511) on 7 Accounts of Robert Goudy; and on the Accounts of the following Persons, which were assigned to the said Goudy, vizt., Aaron Price, Daniel Cokely, Mary Bierden, James Beamer, Patrick Ryley two Accounts, Joseph Duckworth, David McDonald, Charles Groves, Zachariah Chancey, John Noulan, Thomas Gill, Ann Lacey, and Thomas Anderson, being severally read a Second time, were severally agreed to by the House. I now find that Robert Goudy/Gouedy had some 500 persons that was in debt to him when he died in 1775. I suspect that ole Zachariah was among these debtors. If there is a list available, or if there is data to research in 96, I will make the trip over there this Spring. Thank you, Robert Notify Administrator about this message?
