** According to Mahlon Gowdy's book on the Gowdy family
(A Family History Comprising the surnames Gowdy..., Vol II, by Hon. Mahlon M. Gowdy of Providence, R.I., publ 1919, Journal Press, Lewiston, Maine): "Richard Childs Goudey, fifth son of George and Frances [Miles] Goudey, born in Livingstone, Ala, Dec 16, 1886; married Sept 20, 1915, Ruth Alleyne Smith of Gadsden, Ala. He is a Civil Engineer living in York, Ala." NOTE - Richard's father, George Clarence Goudey was living with him at the time this book was published.

**His widow, Ruth Alline, was not able to care for her children after Richard's death and they were placed in an orphanage.

** Ruth Alline died June 1934 in Sumter Co Al (Alabama death record located in Volume 29, Roll 3, Cert #14292) and she is also buried in the York Municipal Cemetery, York, Sumter Co Alabama and her tombstone reads "Aileen Gowdey 1895 - 1934"
** Happily, between 1930 and her death, she was able to get her children back.
About Ruth Alline's family
Ruth Alline [Smith] was the daughter of John Gibson Smith & Ruby [Self] who married in Polk Co Ga.
John Gibson SMITH was the 7th child of James Davenport Smith & Mary Elizabeth Martha [Shaw] who married 17 Nov 1850 in Elbert Co Ga. John was born 20 Jul 1868 Ga - died 02 Jun 1933 in Gadsden, Etowah Co Al. He is buried with many family members in the New Prospect Cemetery, near Rome, Floyd Co, Ga.
His obituary from The Cedartown Standard, Cedartown, Ga, Thursday, June 8, 1933 "John G. Smith, Funeral services were held last Sunday morning from the New Prospect church for Mr. John G. Smith, 64, who died at his home in Gadsden, Ala, last Friday. Rev. J. M. Good, of Gadsden, officiated at the services with interment in the New Prospect cemetery. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Louise Simms and Mrs. Allen Gowdy, both of York,
Ala; one brother, Mr. T. B. Smith of Cedartown. He is also survived by five sisters, Mrs. Alice Crabb, Houston, Texas; Mrs. J. W. Wilkins, Coco, Fla, Mrs. B. L. Clanton, Collinsville, Ala, and Mrs. Kate Henry and Mrs. T. R.
Mullinax, both of Cedartown."
Ruby [SELF] was the youngest of 3 children of Samuel E. Self & Margaret A. [Webster] who married 02 Mar 1863 in Polk Co Ga. Samuel is buried in the Galillee Baptist Church cemetery, Cedartown, Polk Co Ga and his tombstone reads

I know very little about Margaret [Webster] Self and my last record of is 1910 and she is living with her oldest daughter Eddie's family:

Eddie M. [Self] married George M. Holder 06 Apr 1882, in Polk Co Ga. Her husband died before 1920 and she died 25 Apr 1941, Etowah Co Al (Alabama death record Volume 27, Roll 4, Cert #13187)
Mrs Ruby [Self] Smith was born 17 Mar 1877 in Polk Co Ga. She died 19 Feb 1962 while living with her daughter Eddie Louise in York, Sumter Co Al. She is buried with both of her daughters and their husbands Ruby's tombstone at York Municipal Cemetery, York, Sumter Co Al, reads "Rubie Self Smith, wife of John G. Smith, March 17, 1877 - Feb 19, 1962"
Eddie Louise [Smith] was born 17 Apr 1893 in Polk Co Ga and died Dec 1982 in York, Sumter Co Alabama. She married Reuben L. Sims abt 1913 and had 5 children.
