I had not seen that deed. That would have been at the time that my Robert and his brother John C. Gowdy were getting ready to move to White Co., IL. You don't run into other Robert Gowdy's back then.

At some point, an F. appeared after Robert's dad, Hon. William Gowdy's name and I never could determine which researcher put it there and finally removed it from my records. My sister and I had toyed with the idea his mother was a Finley. However, this looks more like the possibility that Ann Scott's mother was a Finley.

Finley and Finney are found as middle names in the White Co., IL families of Gowdy's and related lines.

Very interesting.
