According to Mahlon Gowdy's book on the Gowdy family history published in 1919:
"Richard Childs Goudey, fifth son of George and Frances (Miles) Goudey, born in Livingstone, Ala, Dec. 16, 1886; married Sept. 20, 1915, Ruth Alleyne Smith of Gadsden, Ala. He is a Civil Engineer living in York, Ala."
The father was George Clarence Goudey and he was alive at the time this book was published.
