Could use some help with James W. Gowdy (Gowdey) and offspring:
In 1953 John Gesner Conklin's daughter, Mary Elizabeth (1832-1935) was wed to James W. Gowdy (c. 1830 - ?). It is not known where the couple spent their first nine years of marriage. It is known, however, that James W. Gowdy built a house in 1862 on former property of John Henry Gesner(1724-1811), a distant but direct relative of his wife. The house is on the east side of Piermont Road, Rockleigh Borough, Bergen Co., NJ. The couple raised a large family of five boys and five girls. Mary Elizabeth lived to be 103 years old. Her daughters Emma Ellen and Leah inherited the farm circ 1935.
The Gowdy farmstead is included as a historic structure and farm in the Rockleigh National Historic District.
