Hello Tiffany, my name is Nathan, and one of my maternal great-grandfathers was from Orangeburg. His name was Luther George Govan. He seems to have left Orangeburg around 1900 or so and settled in Marion County, Florida. There he married my great-grandmother Hattie Frazier. From what I hear, he had several children in Orangeburg, and I'm not so sure of why he left them. Seems as if he was born around 1865, and he was married to a woman named Lavinia. And they had a number of children-Christopher, George L., Willemina, Evelania, Anna B. and Leonard. I'd wager that he was related to the other Luther Govans, and George Govans in Orangeburg. How does this all fit in with what you and your mom know? Do let me know your thoughts. Peace.
Nathan
