My maternal grandmother was a Gourley from E TN. She was from the Thomas Gourley line. I have an E TN Smith connection, too,so earlier researchers confused the two lines. My Gourleys were from Carter County TN to Blount County. According to an earlier researcher my Thomas and your Hugh were brothers. Thomas was from PA and Hugh entered through SC, so I'm not sure of the connection. To further confuse things,my Dad's people were in the same areas of W NC as the Smith,Corn,Gourleys in the 1800s.
