I found your posted a message rather by fluke! I don't know where you are but a great grandmother of mine was a Miss Elizabeth Gourley. she lived in Sunderland, County Durham, in north east England. She had a brother called Sir Edward Gourley who was MP for Sunderland for 32 years, between 1868 and 1900.
Their father was called John Young Gourley. He was a shipowner, also in Sunderland. He married a Miss Temperley. Sir Edward did not marry.
Elizabeth Gourley married my Great Grandfather, Joseph Lumsdon(or Lumsden), who was an anchor and chain maker on the River Wear in Sunderland. He may have had sons, but I am descended from a daughter of his, called Edith, who was my grandmother.
I believe the family originated from Fife in Scotland. Beyond this I haven't any information but wonder if this has any relevance to you?
