I descend from the GOULDING surname and I'm looking for information on the Goulding/Goulden/Golding/Golden surname. My first Goulding ancestor I can find is Thomas Golden Goulding/Goulden/Golding/Golden. Some census records show several spellings.
The 1840 Stewart Co GA census shows a Thomas Golden with 1 male in the 20-30 age group, 1 female age 20-30 age group and 1 female in the under 5 age group. I believe this to be Thomas, Mariah and daughter, Sarah.
The 1850 Stewart Co GA census shows Thomas Golding, age 32; Maria, age 33; Sarah, age 10; James, age 9; Margaret, age 7; Caroline, age 5; Doretha, age 3; and William, age 1. All are shown born in GA. There is also a Thomas Williamson, age 22 born GA shown but I don't know if he is related or a hired hand.
1860 Stewart Co GA census shows Thomas Goulden, age 42; Mariah, age 43; James, age 18; Margaret, age 16; Carrie, age 15; Doratha, age 13; William, age 10; **John**, (this is my line), age 8; Ann, age 6 and Mary, age 4. Mary married James Henry Keys in Freestone Co TX ca 1881.
1870 Stewart Co GA Census shows Thomas Golding, age 51; Mariah, age 52; Caroline, age 25; John H, age 19; Anna M, age 16 and Mary L?, age 15.
**John H.(my great gfather) married first Rhoda Ann Smith and later married Mary or Mae Brown or Baker. John and Rhoda had 7 children. They were George; W. Harmon; Charles; my grandfather Marshall Franklin; Anna; Ella and Susan. All were born between 1875 and 1893; the first 2 children were born in GA and the rest in TX.
Would like to find the parents of Thomas and Mariah but am stuck at this point. Can anyone connect to this family?
